CHESHIRE'S trading standards officers are on the look-out for food products which have been found to contain a potentially cancer causing chemical.

The Government's Food Standards Agency is warning people not to eat certain chutneys and relishes manufactured by Shaw's (Huddersfield) Ltd and certain seasonings produced by B.E. International Foods under the Rajah name.

Tests found these products contain chilli powder imported from India containing the illegal dye Sudan I.

The affected Shaw's products are Red Pepper and Aubergine Relish 280g; Hot Mango Chutney 300g; Flaming Hot Chutney 300g; Spicy Apricot Chutney 300g; Mild Chilli Relish 300g and 2.4Kg; Tomato Relish 300g and 2.4Kg; Onion Chutney 300g; Curried Fruit Chutney 300g; Barbecue Relish 300g; Tomato Chilli Relish 2.4Kg; Chilli Relish 2.4Kg; Red Hot Chilli Sauce 2.3Kg.

The affected B.E. International Rajah brand products are Tandoori Masala Seasoning 100g, 400Kg, 1Kg and 8Kg; Jerk Seasoning 100g; Chilli and Lemon Seasoning 100g; Oriental Noodle Seasoning 100g; Chicken Seasoning 100g, 400g and 1Kg.

Cheshire's trading standards officer Paul McGreary said: 'There is no immediate threat of illness and those most at risk would be eating contaminated products regularly over a long time.'
