At the same meeting, Chester RSPB group leader, Norman Sadler, was awarded his 25-year long-service medal.

Norman joined Chester RSPB group just a few years after it formed and has been helping out in various roles for most of the time since.

He has helped take the group from strength to strength, with 500 members at its peak, taking on many conservation tasks along the way.

This included helping to set up the Beeston Peregrine watch, a 24/7 vigil where volunteers take shifts to watch the peregrine nest to stop poachers from stealing the eggs.

His involvement in many outreach programmes to increase public awareness of birds included co-authoring a book on bird-watching walks in and around Chester.
