New Top Gear presenter Chris Evans will be in the region next month to make one of his first major appearances after taking up the job.

His brainchild, CarFest North, will be hosted at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit from July 31 to August 2.

A three-day motoring festival, CarFest features exhibitions of motors both on the track and on display across the weekend.

Evans, 49, was named as Jeremy Clarkson’s replacement for the BBC Two show on Tuesday.

A keen petrolhead, the Radio 2 DJ is known for having a large car collection and was said to be “thrilled” to be part of the new line-up.

His new co-presenters are yet to be announced after Richard Hammond and James May also left Top Gear.

Evans is unlikely to be the only famous face in attendance next month after fellow BBC names Paul Hollywood and Louise Minchin were there last year.

CarFest will see supercars, classics and Formula 1 racers take to the track, as well as live music in the evenings with headline acts Primal Scream, Joss Stone and Will Young.

There will also be air displays, stunt shows and festival food for all the family to take in.

BBC Children in Need benefits from 25% of the money raised from ticket sales.

The event initially began as a one-off in Hampshire, but such was the popularity Evans created a second festival here in the North West.

It started at Cholmondeley Estate in 2012 before moving to Oulton Park a year later.

Over 55,000 descended on the circuit in 2014 and a limited number of tickets for Friday are still available, but all others have sold out.
