THE organiser of the annual Winsford Town Festival says that this year's event will be hard to beat.

Founder Steve Smith admits to being overwhelmed at the turnout to the festival, which ran from Thursday to Sunday, and puts it down to the quality of the acts who appeared, including 12 local bands, members of the town's Factory Arts Centre and acclaimed cover band ABBA Forever, who delighted audiences at The Drum-ber.

'It's been an absolutely fantastic weekend,' said Steve. 'Everything I set out to do when I originally started the festival back in 1999 we have achieved this weekend - we can't go any bigger than this. There's so much local talent and I think the Factory Arts Battle of the Stars on Sunday was a highlight.'

Another highlight of the festival was the It's A Knock-Out competition with teams from local businesses and pubs at which last year's champions from Wetherspoon's pub again emerged triumphant.

Co-organiser and Winsford Mayor Pam Booher congratulated everyone for their hard work and added: 'I'd like to thank the borough and town council for supporting the festival, Richard Ellis and Emma Matthews of Factory Arts and all the local businesses, including Asda, Morrisons and Aldi.'

Steve said he has already planned next year's event, and is looking into providing camping facilities to accommodate even more people.
