Two girls from Chester theatre school Theatretrain represented the UK at a European drama workshop in Switzerland.

Ailis Duggan and Hannah Chesworth, both 16 and from Chester, attend Theatretrain classes and were selected from applicants across the UK to take part in this prestigious event.

The event was run by EDERED (European Drama Encounters Rencontres Europeennes de Drama) and welcomes children from across Europe to work together to create a performance using their own skills, diverse knowledge and training techniques.

As part of the opening event Ailis and Hannah presented a Market Stall of typically British fayre and created a short piece of drama that highlighted typical British weather.

2. Rotary Club of Northwich

A dedicated Rotarian from Wincham who has served with the organisation for 42 years has received a special award.

Frank Smith was presented with the Double Sapphire Paul Harris Fellowship by John Walton, president of the Rotary Club of Northwich.

The award was requested by the District 1050 Governor for Frank’s contribution to Rotary at local, district and international levels.

Frank, also a member of Wincham Parish Council, has been in a lead in Rotary’s youth work for many years, including the Young Chef competition.

3. Chester Inner Wheel

The outgoing president of Chester Inner Wheel has handed over her chain of office.

Nova Haddock handed over to Nadine Morris, who will preside over the club’s 70th year, at an event at Mercure Abbot’s Well Hotel.

Nova also presented a cheque for £1,755 to Joe Millett of Chester Motor Neurone Disease Association, her chosen charity for her year. In addition, a recent coffee morning raised £300 for the Nepal Disaster fund, which was given to Rosalie Shaw from Save the Children.

Nadine’s charity will be the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and two events are already planned: a cake bake at the Mercure in September, with proceeds split between a breast cancer charity and the hospice, and a Christmas concert at Eccleston Church in December.

Stilt walkers took to the streets of Chester to showcase the latest high fashion available at Grosvenor Shopping Centre.

Retailers including Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Hugo Boss, Sports Direct, Quiz and River Island took part of the shopping centre’s BIG On Style event.

Grosvenor Shopping Centre manager Julie Webb said: “Our BIG On Style stilt walkers certainly attracted lots of attention and were a great way to highlight some of the retailers’ hottest trends – from high street fashion favourites to designer wear to sporting gear.”

The event also saw shoppers snapping #styleselfies with giant icons, including a huge shoe, massive nail polish and enormous lipstick on display for the chance to win £100 beauty packages.

Awards were given for first, second and third places in photography, poetry, art, floral art, crafts, preserves, flowers and herbs, salad items and cookery.
