IT'S still not too late to sponsor a Middlewich resident's hair-raising leap from a plane - after bad weather postponed his jump for a fourth time last week.

Tom Latham of King Street was all set to make a 10,000ft leap from a plane in aid of the Meningitis Trust on April 1, but was frustrated then - and three times since - by bad weather and injury.

He said: 'It's getting to seem a little like I'll never do the jump!

'One time it was down to an injury I suffered playing football, but the other three were down to bad weather. There's nothing you can do about that, so I'm just going to keep training and hopefully get it done soon.'

The 20-year-old, who was inspired to jump by his father Andrew's successful battle with meningitis, was scheduled to dive last Monday afternoon, but low clouds and rain made it impossible.

The continued delays have made his leap into the unknown even more nerve-racking, but he explained that the delays had a bright side.

'I can only continue to keep my hand in training-wise,' he said. 'And before the jump I will have a one hour briefing to jog my memory. But the extra time and people's generosity have meant I've already raised over double what I set out to - £850 instead of my £400 target. And people can still sponsor me now, right up to the day I jump.'

Tom's next appointment is scheduled for later this month. To sponsor him call 07706 269120.
