AFTER the recent spell of heavy snow and cold weather, members of Tiverton District Garden Club made a special effort to ensure their annual spring show ran smoothly.

Almost 40 people entered exhibits in the show, with 259 items being entered in 50 classes.

The village hall was crammed with colourful spring flowers, pot plants, cookery and handicrafts, while the youngsters did their bit to ensure the junior section was well represented.

Trophies were given as prizes, presented by club treasurer Tony Harbottle, with Anne Smart winning the most number of accolades.

Cooking produce was auctioned by Jeff Spooner in aid of club funds.

Joyce Harbottle, club secretary, said the day was a great success. “We’d like to thank our sponsors and those who kindly gave their time to help on the day,” she added.

Club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at Tiverton Village Hall at 8pm, and all are welcome.

The next meeting on May 7 explores the theme ‘Herbaceous planting to inspire’ by Paul Cook from Ness Gardens. For more details call 01829 733465.
