Tiverton District Garden Club staged a successful spring show on Saturday, April 9, with 149 high quality entries from 25 competitors in 46 open classes.

Spring flowers, pot plants, cookery and handicrafts classes were especially well-supported, and made a colourful display in the village hall.

The trophies were awarded as follows:-

Paul Ellams – President’s Cup (most prizes in Show)

Paul Ellams – H Povall Trophy (best exhibit in classes for 5 daffodils)

Paul Ellams – Spring Cup (most 1st prizes in other classes for Spring flowers))

Ann Wright – Spring Silver Salver (best exhibit in floral art)

Anna Lewis – Mrs D Halstead Junior Spring Shield (most prizes in junior section)

Helen Burne – Spring Silver Cup (best exhibit in cookery)

Tess Tavernor – £5 Mrs S Darlington prize (most 1st prizes in cookery)

Val Hague – Spring Cup for Handicrafts (best exhibit in handicrafts)

Visitors to the show in the afternoon enjoyed refreshments with home-made cakes before the presentations of the trophies were made by club president Eric Wright.

This was followed by a lively auction of the produce, conducted by Paul Ellams, and a raffle, both of which raised funds for the club.

Club meetings are held at Tiverton Village Hall on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm, and everyone is welcome to come along, either to join or as a visitor.
