THREE Saltney A-level students are set to take centre stage at Birmingham's Symphony Hall next week in the Music for Youth Primary Proms.

But big venues are nothing new to 3Style as band members Themba Mvula, 17, of Saltney and brothers Warren, 19, a former pupil at St David's High School, and Ashley Sollars, 16, of Broughton, have already chalked up an appearance at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The school's head of music, Anne Rushforth, says she's delighted with the success of her star students.

She said: 'I will be escorting the boys down to Birmingham on Tuesday. They will perform one set in the morning and one in the afternoon to thousands of disadvantaged primary school children.

'The lads are studying music and really are talented musicians who hope to eventually turn professional. All three play keyboard and sing. Themba and Ashley also play drums while Themba is also an accomplished guitarist.'

She added: 'Since the band was formed they have achieved remarkable success including an appearance on BBC1 in March 2002 on The Next Big Thing, they were winners of Startrail 2002 in Blackpool, winners of Showcall Showcase 2002 at Barry Young's Stardust, Leicester, as well as winning several local talent competitions.'

The band has been writing new material this year and will be including an original composition in the programme for Birmingham.

Mrs Rushforth says the band's style is a mixture of R 'n' B and hip-hop but that doesn't stop the lads enjoying some of the classical music they have studied as part of their A-level course.

She said: 'I'm delighted to have been able to help the boys who are a delight to work with. As well as competitions, 3Style took part in Flintshire Schools in Performance at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in June last year followed by the school's pop concert in July 2003.

'And they received a Highly Commended Performance Award at the Music for Youth National Festival at the Festival Hall, London, also in July.'

'But their biggest performance to date came in November last year when they performed at the National Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.'
