EMERGENCY services performed a dramatic early hours rescue from the River Dee in Chester this morning (Saturday).

At around 12.20am, fire crews and police officers were called to the river after receiving reports that three people were trapped in the water.

It is believed a middle aged man who was highly intoxicated had fallen into the river and two men in their early 20s had jumped in to rescue him.

Two fire pumps, swift water technicians from Chester Blue Watch and an imobilised boat from Knutsford pulled the three people out successfully, and they were all taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where their conditions are not believed to be serious.
