Coastguards were called into action to deal with a bizarre incident on the River Dee .

A river search was launched yesterday (April 12) after people were spotted floating inside a fridge.

Flint Coastguard Rescue Team received the strange report at 7.34pm.

A member of the public reported that people were inside a fridge on the River Dee, near Connah's Quay. However, when the coastguard team arrived the fridge was found empty.

The fridge was removed and taken to a safe area.

The Coastguard has since slammed the thrill-seekers involved.

The spokesman at Holyhead said: "The three guys ran away. All that was left was the fridge.

"It wasn't just a fridge. The outrigger they placed was just like a Hawaiian-type craft with a float attached to stop it capsizing."

He warned, however, that the three men could easily have drowned if it had sunk, adding: "There was no sign of the men afterwards because they'd scarpered."
