THREE men were arrested at the Deva Stadium as Chester City played Wrexham yesterday (Sunday, March 9).

They were charged with various offences and all were arrested within the stadium.

A 17-year-old Blacon youth was granted conditional bail and will appear before Chester magistrates charged with using indecent or racial chanting at a designated football match.

Two further men were also given conditional bail and ordered to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on March 31.

The first man is a 24-year-old from Connah’s Quay who was charged with using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause harrassment, alarm or distress.

A third man, an 18-year-old from Wrexham, was charged with going onto an area adjacent to the playing area.

Officers from Cheshire Police ept a visibly high presence in Chester on the day.

PC Jerry Allcock said: “Meticulous planning and excellent liaison with both Chester City and Wrexham ensured the event passed relatively peacefully.

“The three arrests on the day were made within the confines of the ground, whilst any disorder outside the Deva Stadium and in the city was kept to a minimum.

“As expected, there were pockets of fans intent on causing trouble, but their impact on the day was minimal and the vast majority of the 3,849 crowd were rightly able to concentrate on the action on the pitch.”
