ORGANISERS of the 2006 Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival were celebrating a 'brilliant' event on Monday - with a rare day off!

More than 30,000 people attended the festival from Friday to Sunday, and spokesman Tim Turner said they were treated to some great performances.

He said: 'The bands were all absolutely amazing, every night. Everywhere you went people were saying how good the acts were.

'I watched Friday's entertainment and thought we wouldn't beat that but everything was wonderful. We had to turn people away from the Levellers, meaning we had about 600 to 700 people in the main tent to see them.

'All the bands I spoke to said they'd like to come back next year, but for now we're having the day off. We'll start planning the fundraising Winter Warmer later in the week, then work begins for next year's festival.'
