Thieves who stole a van specially equipped to transport a wheelchair used by a cerebral palsy sufferer have been branded 'despicable' by police.

The sky blue Ford Torneo vehicle was just one of the items thieves stole from a house in Hartford over the weekend.

They entered the property on Chester Road sometime between 9pm on Friday (February 19) and 7.20am on Saturday (February 20) and helped themselves to a number of items.

The car that was taken was specifically purchased to transport the wheelchair for the family’s 34-year-old son, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and has a dint above the right rear light area.

Chief Inspector Simon Meegan said; “This is a despicable incident, and we keen to trace those involved to enable us to reunite the stolen items with their rightful owners.

"As part of our enquiries I am keen to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident who believes that they may have any information that would help us bring these callous offenders to justice.”
