A COMMUNITY leader blasted the 'idiots' he claims endangered lives in Little Sutton.
Ledsham Labour councillor Justin Madders was speaking after the sign forbidding construction traffic entering the Little Sutton end of Berwick Road went missing for the second time in a month.
As a consequence, he says, many unsuitable construction vehicles have been travelling to the new development in Berwick Road through Little Sutton rather than from the Welsh Road as was originally requested by the borough council.
Cllr Madders said: 'I'm pretty sure the idiots who are taking these signs think it's a bit of a laugh after they've had a few drinks, as it always seems to go missing on a Friday or Saturday night.
'However, by removing this sign they are allowing heavy construction traffic to think it can come up the road to the new development at the other end of Berwick Road.
'What they forget though is that there a lot of young children who live on Berwick Road, including my own kids, as well as the primary school and the nursery. Some of these lorries are clearly too large to drive up this end of the road safely with kids about.'
But Cllr Madders is hopeful the problem had now been solved.
He said: 'New signs have been put out at the top of Berwick Road again and Redrow has been told in no uncertain terms to keep its contractors in order.
'I have seen evidence that they have done that now, so I hope that the contractors behave responsibly as requested. There are more than enough people watching out who live on the road, including myself, to ensure people behave themselves from now on.'
