A teenage cyclist is in hospital with head injuries after falling down a steep embankment in Frodsham yesterday (Thursday March 27).

All three emergency services were called to Bellmonte Road shortly after 5pm where they performed a ‘protracted and careful’ rescue operation .

It is believed the 17-year-old male had been riding his mountain bike  with a friend when he lost control and fell down the embankment.

He was taken by ambulance to Aintree Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Sergeant Rachel Gallagher from Cheshire police praised the efforts of the local community following the incident.

She said: “We would like to thank local people for their assistance following the incident.

“Many came to help at the scene and stayed with the casualty and we are so grateful to them for all the support they provided.”

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, which occurred on a muddy track, or has any information, which could assist with enquiries, to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 670 of March 27.
