THE boss of the Army's presentation team has described comments about Iraq made by the Chief of the General Staff as 'fantastic'.
General Richard Dannett, pictured, hit the headlines when he said British troops should leave the war-torn country 'sometime soon' and suggested they were 'exacerbating the security problem'.
The presentation team, which provides a slick picture of Army life and opportunities, was at Chester's Crowne Plaza Hotel on Monday night, addressing an audience of about 200 opinion-formers from across Cheshire, including a number from Ellesmere Port.
In answer to a question from the floor about whether senior Army officers should get involved in political issues, the team's commander, Colonel Greville Bibby, said Gen Dannett had merely been giving the 'military side of a political situation'.
However, he agreed with the questioner that he probably couldn't get away with making such comments too often without risking his job.
Col Bibby then said emphatically that he thought what Gen Dannett had said was 'fantastic'.
