A WOMAN teacher has been arrested following allegations of a sex offence against a young teenage boy at a Cheshire school.
The 38-year-old has not been named and The Chronicle has chosen not to identify the school to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
Chairman of the governors said: “We can confirm that a member of staff has been suspended while investigations take place. It is not in itself a disciplinary measure. The school will be continuing as normal.”
Cheshire police spokesman Shelley Williams said: “As part of an ongoing police investigation, a 38-year-old female was arrested under the Sexual Offences Act and is assisting police with their enquiries.
“She has been granted police bail until March 2009. The lady was arrested on Thursday, November 20, at her home address.”
The woman was arrested for adult abuse of a position of trust – to cause or incite sexual activity with a child aged 13 to 17 – following a joint investigation by Cheshire County Council’s Safe Guarding Team and Cheshire Constabulary.
The school was recently praised by Government inspectors Ofsted, who described the personal development and wellbeing of the pupils as “outstanding”.
