TEACHER Nicky Bolton is back in the classroom after a successful teaching exchange in South Africa.
Nicky, of Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School, visited the De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust in Pretoria. Trust ambassador Joshua Mpete visited the school earlier this year.
Nicky taught at local schools and at the educational centre and visited schools with one of the trust’s ‘ambassador’ cheetahs.
She shared her experiences with children and parents at an evening at Overleigh where guests were invited to taste crocodile, pap – a traditional maize meal – and biltong provided by Ellesmere Port’s South African restaurant, Jabula.
Nicky presented the trust with a cheetah batik and a cheetah research book produced by the children of Overleigh during a fundraising day sponsored by Chester Zoo.
The day raised £250 bolstered by an additional £250 raised by teaching assistant Janet Hill and her son Andrew doing a car boot sale and busking.
A further £250 was raised at Nicky’s post-trip talk from ticket sales and she is still raising funds through cheetah adoptions.
