A LONG-SERVING staff member at Northgate Village Surgery in Chester has bid a fond farewell to her colleagues.

Dr Liz McClure has retired as senior partner at the surgery after more than 39 years in medicine, 36 of which were spent in Chester.

A tea party was held on Sunday to celebrate her retirement.

Those in attendance on the day included some 150-200 staff, present and past, previous trainee doctors, and an enormous number of patients who gathered to wish her well.

Dr Liz’s farewell speech included thanks to those who had been mentors for her, to her colleagues and staff who had supported her so well, and especially to her patients to whom she was devoted, but who were also devoted to her, giving her much more than she gave them.

Dr Liz was presented with two beautiful herons to grace her garden pond, especially in view of her interest in RSPB.

Donations were accepted on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Society, in view of her special interest and work in this field.
