THE Rotary Club in Tarporley were out in force recently offering residents and visitors to the village free blood pressure checks.

These free checks were given by a trained nurse and took place on the high street, on the forecout of The Rising Sun.

Nearly 80 people took the opportunity to go down and get checked, with some people being advised to visit their doctors for further tests.

The tests took place in a caravan that the Rotary Club have recently purchased to be used in many of their fundraising events.

Publicity manager David Carter said: “We were really grateful to Cheshire Community Action who gave us a grant of £1,000 with which we have been able to purchase both the caravan and a digital projector. They are both tremendous assets which help us with our fund raising work – and that fact that we didn’t have to dip into funds raised to buy them was really great.”

President Joe O’Connor said: “Rotary Clubs throughout the country run Blood Pressure awareness days at this time of year, which we believe helps to save many lives. We hope people in Tarporley have seen that we have been out frequently this year collecting to raise money, not just to save lives, but also to provide shelter and comfort for instance to recent earthquake victims.”

The Club are currently organising Tarpoley’s first all village Spring Ball to take place on June 25.
