A reduced bus service which passes through Tarporley and Tarvin has been slammed by a passenger who depends on it.

The frequency of the 84 bus between Crewe and Chester has been cut from half-hourly to hourly.

Alex Cefai, who lives in Tarporley, contacted the Chronicle to express her frustration.

'Nightmare'

A non-driver, she branded the timetable change a ‘nightmare’.

“It being an hourly service now has caused major disruption,” she said.

“I know a lot of people have had to quit their jobs in Chester because of this.

“It’s workers I feel for most because if they miss their bus after work, when they’re tired, they have to wait another hour.

“I’m incredibly angry.”

Alex, who uses the service to get to work in Tarvin and to visit Chester, added that the ‘restrictive’ reduced service also means people who use the bus cannot be as spontaneous.

She has registered her concerns with Arriva and is urging others who have been affected to do the same.

Her mum Angela Cefai said: “They say people should use the buses more, but they would if they were more regular.”

Not enough demand

But Arriva say not enough people use the 84 to justify a half-hourly service any more.

Spokesman Derek Bowes said: “Sadly, there are too few passengers travelling between Nantwich and Chester to sustain a half-hourly service, and we had little alternative but to reduce the frequency to hourly late last year.

“The last bus back from Chester is at 8:58pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 10:58pm on Fridays and Saturdays.”
