MORE than 60 children from Tarporley Cof E Primary School enjoyed a trip to Peckforton Castle as part of a competition prize won by two of the school’s Key Stage 2 pupils.

Peckforton Castle launched the competition to children across Cheshire in March and invited them to design a new children’s menu for the venue’s 1851 Restaurant and new 2010 Brasserie, with a focus on using local, seasonal produce. Euan Roberts and Lucy Rimmer both won prizes for their outstanding contributions to the competition.

Two of Euan’s menu choices appear on the new Knights and Maidens children’s menu along with Lucy’s striking design.

As part of their visit, the children learnt about the rich history of the country’s only intact medieval style castle and the work undertaken by the hotel owners to restore the building.

The highlights included seeing the winning children’s menu in action and a falconry session where the children met the hotel’s collection of exotic birds of prey.

Peckforton Castle managing director Chris Naylor said: “It’s always lovely to see children here, but this day was particularly special given all the hard work put into winning the competition prize.”
