A TARPORLEY parish councillor just missed out on the cash prize on one of the nation’s favourite TV quizzes.
James Blackford, of Eaton Road faced the fierce Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link on Monday.
The former Tarporley High School physics teacher battled through the rounds, frequently banking the money, until he reached the final.
In a tense last round James answered all but one of the questions correctly, as did his opponent, and the pair were plunged into the sudden death round.
Unluckily for James he got his question wrong and his opponent got hers right and Anne uttered the heartbreaking line: “James, you leave with nothing.”
Although he failed to gain the top spot, James’s performance impressed many former Tarporley High School pupils who have set up a 200-member strong Facebook group called ‘James Blackford should have won the Weakest Link rather than Lucy’.
At the end of the programme James told viewers he would have spent the money on a 30th wedding anniversary party for his wife.
