A COUNTRY pub near Tarporley has been named in a national newspaper’s top list of Great British Pubs.

The Alvanley Arms Inn, on the A49 in Cotebrook, has been listed in The Daily Telegraph’s selection of the country’s favourite traditional pubs and rural food outlets.

The self-proclaimed ‘number one international best seller’ describes the pub as being splendid views, quaint rooms and hearty dinner menu.

The 400-year-old pub was also highlighted in the 70 Great British Pubs as being one of the North West’s top watering hotels and being one of the best in the area for an overnight stay.

Landlady Janet King said: “The Alvanley Arms Inn strongly believes in keeping alive the tradition of the Great British pub and providing guests with an authentic country experience, so to be recognised in this way is a huge accolade.”

The Alvanley Arms is a converted 16th Century coaching house with a beer garden overlooking a duck pond.
