Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was found lying in the road with life-threatening injuries near Tarporley.

The 39-year-old man, from Sale, who was taking part in the Manchester 100 Mile Bike Ride, was discovered injured on Long Lane, Spurstow, about 10.40am on Sunday, September 4.

He was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital by air ambulance where he is currently in a critical condition. A local driver, who stopped at the scene, was spoken to by police. Inquiries are continuing.

Sergeant Andy Dennison, of Cheshire Police, said: “At the current time we are establishing the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“As part of my investigation I’m keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and believes that they may have any information that could assist our investigation.”
