FORMER Tarporley High School pupils enjoyed a day of memories, reunions and memorabilia at the school’s 50th birthday bash.

During the day former students were able to re-live their school days, meet up with old friends and reacquaint themselves with their former teachers. The extensive display of photographs and memorabilia from the past 50 years rekindled many happy memories. All decades were represented including a large group from the original class of ’58, with visitors from as far as New Zealand and Spain reuniting with former classmates.

One message received from an ex-pupil from 1962-67 stated: “It was great fun remembering old times and seeing the school as it is today. You have made an old man very happy.”

Current headteacher Sarah Lee said: “We all had a wonderful day. Pupils and staff from all the decades were so thrilled to meet up and remember the school as it was. We had a 1960s map of the school, the old House system, and hundreds of photographs going right back to 1958.

“Many of these can be downloaded from our website at www.tarporleyhigh.co.uk. We will not be waiting another 50 years to hold such a happy get-together, and we are already talking about celebrating our 60th anniversary.

“A big thank you goes to all the staff and parents on the Home School Association for all their help and excellent organisation.”

Pictures from the reunion will be appearing on page 5 of the Country edition of Friday’s Chronicle, on sale from October 10.
