A TARPORLEY shop has splashed out on a £250,000 revamp in a bid to supply a wider selections of goods to those in the village.

The Co-operative store on High Street underwent a makeover turning the tired old store into a more customer- friendly model.

The community shop has been transformed with new modern décor as well as new eco-refrigeration and has a more ‘shopper-friendly’ layout.

The store was closed for a week while the new renovations took place and was reopened last Thursday.

Spokeswoman for the Co-op Roslyn Barclay said: “It will offer a comprehensive choice with the emphasis on fresh foods including a much enhanced range of fresh meat, fruit and vegetables.

“In addition, the store’s selection of chilled beers and wines will be increased. The popular Lottery and Paypoint services will also be retained.”

The refurbished shop will have more room for its Fairtrade products and the store will also now carry the retailer’s own health and beauty range.

As part of the new store, customers will be encouraged to use a greener alternative such as The Co-operative Fairtrade cotton Bag for Life, which costs 97p, or the plastic Bag for Life, priced at 10p, which the store will replace for free and then recycle.

Manager Richard Nicholls said: “We provide a much valued service for the local community and I am confident our shoppers will be delighted with our improved store and wider selection of goods which will better meet all the community’s daily grocery needs.”
