A witness appeal has been launched by police in Chester after a 'suspicious person' grabbed hold of a young woman in the street.

The 24-year-old woman was pushing a pram along Caughall Road in Upton at around 7.30pm on Monday (February 15) and was just approaching Rosedene Close when she was approached from behind by someone who grabbed hold of her and struck her in the back.

Police say nothing was said and nothing was taken from her.

The offender, who police have described as a 'suspicious person', then released their grip and the victim escaped.

DC Olly Carruthers said: “The victim was left shaken by this incident but was uninjured. This was an unusual incident and the motive is currently unclear. The offender was behind the victim and as a result she cannot offer a description.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously before or after the incident took place to contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Olly Carruthers on 101 incident number 876 of 15 February 2016. Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
