CHRIS Moon has put human courage to the test after being involved in a devastating land mine accident - and is now embarking on his greatest challenge yet.

A £1m fight against disability. The ex-soldier, who was injured while clearing land mines in Mozambique, is about to join thousands of fundraisers up and down the country in a bid to reach his goal and raise cash for the world's leading disabled charity - Leonard Cheshire.

Chris, who lost an arm and leg in the land mine explosion, will next month walk the length of the UK in just 25 days starting at Land's End and ending at John O' Groats.

Not only will he pace some 1,300 miles, reaching up to 50 marathons in total, but he will also endure 18 hours of walking every day!

Although the event is a gruelling one by anyone's standards, it has already attracted a bevy of celebrities along the route, leading him through some of Britain's major cities - including Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds and York, to Manchester, Birmingham, London, Bristol and Exeter.

The One Walk challenge will be broadcast on TV, with the total amount Chris wishes to raise in excess of £1m.

It is open to anyone to come along and pull on their hiking boots, but Halton residents might prefer to select the mid-week Oldham through to Stockport route on Thursday, June 17.

The Manchester section is likely to gain regional news coverage, and features a host of well-known faces including a couple of Coronation Street stars thrown in for good measure.

Walkers are also in the running to receive training and motivational tips from Chris, not to mention a T-shirt, medal, certificate and the chance of winning some great prizes. To sponsor the One walk event visit www.onewalk.org.uk and make a secure on-line donation.
