CIVIC dignitaries were guests of honour at an event to celebrate day services.

Borough mayor Marie Lewis, county council chairman Neville Price and the county's director of community services, John Weeks, attended the event at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall.

Mark Hodge, senior day service officer at the Coronation Centre in Ellesmere Port, said: 'For us, the event was to celebrate the success of our community day services and act as an opportunity for local people to find out more about what we do.

'The aim of community day service is to enable people with learning disabilities to be a part of their local community as independently as possible.

'This has been done by providing people with voluntary work placement opportunities, by forming partnerships with local organisations including Ness Botanical Gardens, Stanlaw Abbey Children's Centre, The Links Centre and Hooton Park. In addition we attend courses at our local library and West Cheshire College.'
