Despite the best efforts of some pesky clouds, the spectacular full supermoon made an appearance in the skies over Chester this evening (November 14).

This stunning lunar event is the first time the moon has come this close to Earth since 1948.

No doubt the supermoon had those lucky enough to spot it reaching for their cameras.

Here's a selection of stunning pictures of the phenomenon shining bright over the city sent to us so far by readers.

The moon appeared up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than an average full moon.

According to NASA, tonight's rare astronomical occurrence is the closest full moon to date in the 21st century.

So rare in fact that we won't see another one so close to Earth again until November 25, 2034.
