HORDES of Hale villagers attended the Summer Carnival on Saturday.

Organisers of the event could not believe the amount of attention their festival attracted, as more than 2,500 people made the effort to support the day.

Peter Platt, chairman of Hale Village Carnival, said droves of people flocked to the village fields to take part in the activities.

He said: 'It was a wonderful day and we had tremendous support from the locals who came along and enjoyed everything that we put on.

'We reckon we had more than 1,500 paying adults and over 1,000 children, who got in for free, at the event.

'We catered for everyone and it was a great success.'

Last year's carnival was put on a back-burner as a result of a change in committee, but this time plans were put in place early to ensure that the day ran smoothly.

Peter added: 'We have been planning this since October 2005 and a lot of hard work has gone into making it the success it was.

'We had dog shows, fancy dress, a drum and pipe band, lots of different stalls, live music from local groups - we had everything.'

Organisers say this year's festival will take some beating, but they intend to attract an even bigger crowd next June for the 2007 event.

Peter added: 'It's a traditional village event and everyone who attended thor-oughly enjoyed themselves.'
