PARISH councillors are delighted their village plan will be used when addressing planning applications.

The Weaverham Village Design Statement (VDS), compiled by Weaverham residents, was last week adopted as supplementary planning guidance by Vale Royal Borough Council, along with a draft Parish Landscape Statement (PLS).

They will be considered when councillors decide planning applications in and around the village.

Cllr Douglas Shingler, of Weaverham Parish Council, said: 'It is good news because it adds aspects to the planning process people of Weaverham want to see in the village.

'A lot of work has been put in by a number of people over the years and it has now born fruit. It will help to get Weaverham what it wants in the future, and the borough councillors will have to take it into account when dealing with planning applications in Weaverham.'

The preparation and co-ordination of the VDS and PLS has been undertaken by steering groups of local people, supported by the Weaverham Trust and the parish council.

A report from Vale Royal Borough Council's executive group said the council would be 'writing to the steering groups congratulating them on producing the documents.'
