A team of four literature fans from The Queen’s School in Chester came out top in this year’s Cheshire Inter-Schools Book Quiz.

Bookworms and Year 8 pupils Mia Taylor, Madeleine Andrews, Charlie McDonald and Grace Dixon worked hard over the last year, diligently reading and answering questions on set texts and general literature.

Their fantastic score meant they were placed as one of the top four out of the 35 schools taking part and secured them a place in the final alongside King’s Macclesfield, King’s School, Chester and Merchant Taylor’s School, Crosby.

The Queen’s team took an early lead and maintained their position throughout the quiz, displaying excellent literary knowledge and an equally impressive buzzer technique.

The girls received their trophy from author Teri Terry.

Queen’s librarian Gillian Mayes said: “I’m really pleased that the girls did so well; they worked really hard and it was great to see how much they grew in confidence and knowledge throughout the year. A well deserved win!”
