THE red and green benches of the Mother of Parliaments beckon for youngsters from a village primary school.

About 30 children in Year 6 at Tarporley Church of England Primary on Park Road will be travelling up to the capital later this month for an exciting visit as part of their project looking at parliament and democracy.

There they will meet Eddisbury MP Stephen O’Brien, the shadow health minister, who dropped in at the school recently to talk to the youngsters and answer their questions ahead of their visit.

Mr O’Brien also met headteacher Richard Coates and members of the staff at the school.

During their trip, the pupils will have a tour of the Houses of Parliament and another question and answer session with the MP.

Mr O’Brien, who was born in Tanzania and brought up in Kenya, had to answer more questions than he bargained for during his visit.

The children are also studying Africa and were quick to put their hands up with questions when they learned he had lived there.
