Pupils at a Great Boughton high school have been remembering the millions of people killed in the Holocaust.

Students at the Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School have been fully involved in a variety of Holocaust Memorial Day activities, as part of the 2014 Journeys theme.

Pupils Jordan Lee and Jacob Houghton were poetry competition winners in the Chester Cathedral Schools’ Poetry Competition with their entry The Shoe .

They each received a bound copy of their winning entry and, together with their parents, attended the Holocaust Memorial Service in the Lady Chapel at Chester Cathedral .

The girls attended a series of seminars in Manchester before spending a full day at Auschwitz.

On their return, the girls led a series of assemblies in school as part of their accreditation and were invited to attend the Lord Merlyn-Rees Memorial Lecture at the House of Commons.

The guest speaker on this occasion was Thomas Harding, author of Hanns and Rudolf: The German Jew and The Hunt for the Kommandant of Auschwitz .
