CHESTER streets resounded with song on Saturday afternoon for the city’s Big Sing.

Shoppers, tourists and racegoers flocked around The Cross to hear TV choir A Handbag of Harmonies kick off the event, part of the Chester Summer Music Festival.

Introduced by Town Crier Julie Mitchell, the women singers were among nine choirs to entertain at various points around the city, including The Rows and outside Chester Town Hall.

Director of Chester Festivals Tracy Lynn said: “The Big Sing this year was bigger and better and it was great to see the crowds enjoying the entertainment. It is our opportunity to introduce music to the masses.”

Choirs taking part included Cheshire Youth Choir, Whitby High School, Castle Way Primary School from the Wirral and Vale Royal Singers.

Chester Summer Music Festival continues tonight with Respectable Groove performing at the university at 7.30pm.

Tomorrow night (Friday) rising soprano star Elin Manahan Thomas will perform at St Werburgh’s Church and the Finale Gala Concert takes place at Chester Cathedral on Saturday.
