A CAMPAIGN to encourage dads to read to their children for five minutes a day is being spearheaded by Widnes Library.
Staff organised a special Dads' And Kids' Day to spur fathers into reading to their children.
Special guests at the event on Saturday included the Widnes Vikings, firefighters and Widnes Cadets.
Using the concept of dads finding time to read to their children, the promotion pushes the library as the place for dads to discover books to share with their children and to enjoy themselves.
The event included activities such as nail art and hair-braiding for young people.
The initiative is part of a national literacy initiative called Five Minute Dads - referring to the time it takes to read a child a story.
