CHANNEL 4 racing commentator Graham Goode will be commentating on Chester's first Retail Cup.

The race takes place on Friday, May 1 with teams from 12 city centre stores riding hobby horses down Eastgate Street.

The race will be started at 1pm by the Lord Mayor of Chester.

Teams from Mankind, Purely Wicked, Chester Market, Boots, Grosvenor Shopping Centre, Debenhams, New Look, Cruise, Marks And Spencer, Tesco Sealand Rd, Rufus Court and Dee 106.3 will be taking part.

Chief executive of sponsors Chester Racecourse, Richard Thomas, is excited about both the Chester Retail Cup Parade and of course the arrival of the Chester Racing Season.

He said: “We were keen to work with retailers in the city around the Chester May meeting and are delighted that, with our help, so many of them have put together great shopping offers, many as part of The Chronicle Go Local campaign. With over 50,000 leaflets in hotels and shops, it should make our many visitors over the next two weeks very welcome in the city of Chester.

“Of course the Chester Retail Cup is designed to be a bit of fun and we hope in years to come it becomes a treasured title just like the real Chester Cup.”

People who line the streets to see this event will also be able to see The Chester Cup on display.
