A SUPERMARKET is expanding its distribution centre in Middlewich, bringing further jobs to the town.

Tesco has taken control of a second industrial unit on Pochin Way at Midpoint 18 and says more than 30 jobs will be created immediately.

The building, which is currently being upgraded, has stood empty since it was built by Pochin nearly five years ago.

Midpoint Sports Ltd had earmarked the building for a multi-million-pound sports centre in Middlewich - bosses there have been forced to look elsewhere after Tesco snapped up the building in March and say they are 'days away' from signing a deal.

The warehouse will operate alongside Tesco's existing distribution facilities on the industrial estate, which employ hundreds of workers. It will house some of the chain's less perishable goods, including Oxo cubes and mobile phones, until they are needed by stores across the North West and North Wales. Lorries will continue to pick up from the existing warehouse.

Bosses will be recruiting today (Wednesday) and will be offering work including clerical admin duties, loading trailers and general warehouse positions. A number of part-time positions will be reserved for working parents.

Jobseekers can attend the warehouse at 9.30am, 11.30am and 3pm, but need to call Tesco in advance on 01606 317100.
