Employees at Essar Oil UK’s Stanlow refinery teamed up with colleagues from Bilfinger and Jenkins & Davies to make a £1,250 donation to local children’s cancer charity The Joshua Tree.

The community donation recognised safe working practices during recent planned maintenance activities and will provide a much-needed boost to The Joshua Tree’s support work with Cheshire families affected by childhood cancer.

Sara Wheater from the charity commented: “This donation is very timely for us as it will help fund the support centre activities during our busy Christmas holiday countdown period when many more families come together and share their experiences at one of our support or play sessions.”

Essar site safety adviser Lee Deponeo said: Safety is an absolute priority at Stanlow and we’re delighted to be able to support such a deserving cause, especially at this time of year.”

Children’s cancer charity The Joshua Tree has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community who have donated toys to its annual Christmas toy appeal this year.

As well as official Toy Appeal collections at Whitegate Station Café and The Lounge at Oakmere, supporters have been dropping off new toys, games and playsets at the charity’s Support Centre in Venables Road.

Founder and CEO Lynda Hill said: “We really are incredibly grateful to the Cheshire community who have been thinking about our families as we head into the festive season.

“The toys and games will be well used during our family support sessions here – a big thank you goes out to everyone who has donated.”
