A QUICK-THINKING employee saved the day by putting out a fire at a motorway services restaurant.

Diners at the Road Chef restaurant at the M56 Hapsford services had to be evacuated after a pan of oil caught alight in the kitchen at around 3pm on Thursday (October 13).

But real danger was averted when a member of staff put out the blaze with a fire blanket before crews arrived.

Two pumps were dispatched but there was no lasting damage and normal service was soon resumed.
