A SPURSTOW couple who met at a Cheshire castle are celebrating 60 years of a fairytale marriage.

Robert, 87, and Nancy 78, Davies of Peckforton Hall Lane met at the August bank holiday fete at Beeston Castle in 1948.

Robert said: “We had both gone to the celebration on cycles, we couldn’t afford cars in those days, and we got talking.”

After courting for two years the couple were married at Bunbury parish church in 1950.

Robert was in the Seaforth highlanders before the couple married after which he became a heavy goods driver and Nancy did milk rounds. Nancy has also spent 40 years in the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service helping out in the Bunbury pensioners club.

Robert said: “We are very proud of our family, we have two children, Benjamin and Judith, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren and we have lived in our home here together for 55 years.”

Nancy and Robert celebrated their diamond day by inviting family and friends to their home.

Robert added: “We can see Beeston Castle from our home and we often look over at it and remember the day we met.”
