A SPORTS programme for village youngsters could continue.

The initiative, which has been welcomed by parents, was introduced by Nomansheath and District Parish Council but has also attracted young people from Tattenhall, Farndon and Malpas.

It followed concerns about anti-social behaviour.

Sports coach Errol Stephenson-Tyrell told the council there had been an “excellent response” to the programme which they had commissioned.

Attendance had ranged from nine at the first session to 24 with a regular average of 16.

The young people had displayed good behaviour and attitude with Errol talking about and challenging their behaviour outside the programme in the wider community.

He had also organised a visit by Chester Jets.

“The young people are eager to continue the programme in some way perhaps identifying activities for girls,” he told councillors.

Mr Stephenson-Tyrrell also told the council there may be a need for a youth worker or advisor in the area.

Councillors say the programme has received “positive feedback” from parents and there has been a reduction in litter in Nomansheath although alcohol continues to be consumed in public areas.

They are to consider continuing the programme in some way at their next meeting in November when the young people involved will be able to voice their ideas for the future.

Funding opportunities are also to be investigated.
