CHESHIRE’S biggest equestrian extravaganza will return with a bang this summer.

The annual Bolesworth Classic Showjumping event will coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations when it kicks off on June 1, and organisers are promising this year will be the ‘best yet’.

Thousands of riders and spectators are expected to fill the grounds of Bolesworth Castle, near Tattenhall, to see some of the world’s top showjumping and event riders compete for the Bolesworth Classic Grand Prix.

In true patriotic style, this year’s four-day event has a Great British show theme and features a host of classic English attractions including vintage car displays, falconry, clay pigeon shooting and fine food.

A special Jubilee lunch and traditional jubilee games will be the highlight of Sunday afternoon, followed by a jubilee concert by Tattenhall Music Society, and the famous showjumping will ensure the crowds are kept entertained throughout.

Despite the rain, last year’s show attracted its biggest crowds yet, with visitors from far and wide turning out to see stunning performances from showjumping legend John Whitaker and Badminton champion Mark Todd and former Badminton and Burghley winner, Oliver Townend, as well as star-studded appearances from celebrity chef Brian Mellor, X-Factor contestant Ruth Lorenzo and leading fashion designer Cleo B.

Show organiser Nina Barbour, who also manages the Bolesworth estate, described the event as ‘the centrepiece of our summer’.

“It's a wonderful showcase for modern rural life,” she added.

“We combine top-class equestrian sport with up-to-date entertainment for families who want to enjoy a great day out.”
