A TREE planted on the boundary of Vale Royal and Crewe and Nantwich symbolises the close working relationship between the two boroughs, say council bosses.

The Mayor of Vale Royal, Cllr Val Godfrey, presented her Crewe and Nantwich counterpart, Stan Davies, with a native Cheshire tree at Wimboldsley Primary School on Thursday.

This school, chosen for its proximity to the boundary line, turned out to welcome the mayors and their consorts, performing a series of songs before the tree-planting ceremony.

Cllr Godfrey said: 'This is about celebrating the close working relationship which has developed between the two borough councils and the many excellent partnerships we have built together.'

Jane Millward, headteacher at the school, was delighted it was chosen.

She said: 'We are honoured to have been chosen to look after this special tree. The children have promised the mayors that the tree will be greatly cared-for and they look forward to watching the tree grow and blossom during their time at the school.'
