A man and his dog were able to flee a fire in their Tiverton home after smoke alarms alerted them to the blaze.

The pair had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in the downstairs of the property on Pudding Lane shortly before midnight on Sunday (January 11).

Fire engines from Chester and Tarporley attended and used a rose reel to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to a fire in a semi-detached house.

“On arrival they discovered a fire in the ground floor living room which was affecting the kitchen of the property.

“The occupier was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms sounding and got himself and his dog out and dialed 999.”

They added that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started accidentally.
