TWO Countess of Chester Hospital charities are hundreds of pounds better off thanks to a kind hearted donation following a charity golf day.
Mountain Lane Golf Club coined in more than £5,000 at an annual event held at Padeswood and Buckley Golf Club.
More than half of the money will be donated to Countess of Chester hospital’s Breast Care Nurse Trust Fund and Breast Care Equipment and Education Fund.
Sharon Whitley, golf committee treasurer and secretary, said: “We chose the two charities because of their local services.
“The prize money from the winning team this year will go to Leukaemia Research. The prize money from the second winning team is also going to the Countess charities.”
A mini tournament was also held in memory of popular Padeswood golfer Andrew Griffiths (Wilf) who died following a stroke.
Sharon added: “We’d like to thank Wilf’s family and friends for arranging this important event and for their continued support to our charity day.
“ The winners of the ‘Wilfie’ this year was Team Fitz, led by Ged Fitzgerald, brother-in-law and friend to Wilf.
“Family and friends sponsored the holes and Wilf’s daughter and niece Hannah and Rebecca offered novelty drinks at the 18th tee.
“It was a lovely gesture which went down very well with the golfers.
“Thanks to Padeswood and Buckley Golf Club, our main sponsor Care at Home, and all sponsors and supporters.”
