Sir John Major joined the parents of IRA bomb victim Tim Parry for a dinner event at Peckforton Castle.

The former UK Prime Minister is a patron of Foundation for Peace, the charity set up by Colin and Wendy Parry in memory of their son and Johnathan Ball, who were killed in the 1993 blast in Warrington.

Sir Major was attending to hear more about the Foundation’s work and how more could be done to support the charity, which works nationally and internationally to promote peace and non-violent conflict resolution.

Wendy said it was ‘very important’ to get the support of Sir Major.

“Sir John is a man with great skill and passion,” she said.

“We are extremely honoured to have him as part of the Foundation. “The response from guests at the dinner was very positive and he delivered a truly emotional and entertaining speech.”

“Peckforton Castle was the perfect setting for such an exclusive event such as this one.

“We were totally impressed with the service, the setting and the wonderful food,” she added.

Peckforton Castle chairman Tony Naylor said he was very impressed with the former Prime Minister:

“Sir John was a very approachable chap and had all of the audience eating out of his hand.”

“A truly wonderful man who explained that sometimes it’s not about how much money you have it’s about your life experience and how it shapes who you are,” he added.
